    A:

Short answer? Century Oasis or Century Glory – no contest. But let me be clear: “luxury” on the Yangtze is not the same as a European river cruise. You are paying for a smooth ride, decent Western toilets, and a balcony that actually faces the gorge, not the wall of another ship.

Look, the real deal in 2026 is that Century Cruises has the newest fleet. The Century Oasis launched in 2019, and the Century Glory in 2021. They have proper stabilizers (the Yangtze can get choppy in the Three Gorges dam locks) and the cabins are genuinely modern – USB ports, rainfall showers, and balconies wide enough to sit and watch the Qutang Gorge without twisting your neck. Most of my clients who book either of these come back happy.

Here is the trap: many agencies will still push the Victoria series (like Victoria Sabrina) because they have brand recognition in the West. But the Sabrina was built in 2015 and refitted in 2019. By 2026, she is seven years past that refit – the carpets are tired, the air conditioning gets grumpy in July, and the “luxury” tag is stretching thin. Do not fall for it. Also, avoid the Yangtze Gold ships unless you are on a tight budget – they are huge, impersonal, and the food is cafeteria-level.

    > Xiang’s Insider Note: If you book Century Oasis, request a cabin on the port (left) side when sailing upstream from Chongqing to Yichang. That puts your balcony facing the cliffs of the Qutang Gorge. Starboard side? You get the other ship’s hull.

For 2026, the only other ship I would consider is the Sanctuary Yangtze Explorer – but only if you want a truly small ship (less than 100 passengers) and don’t mind paying 50% more for a butler who pours your tea. The cabins are stunning, but the ship is slow and you miss some of the smaller tributaries that the big ships can’t enter. It is a trade-off.

My honest advice: book Century Glory if you want the newest experience, or Century Oasis if you want a proven layout. Reserve by mid-2025 for the best cabins – 2026 is the start of the post-COVID recovery boom, and the good ones go fast. Hope that helps. Safe travels!
