    A:

If “modern” means newest build, biggest cabins, and the latest tech, then you’re looking at the Century Glory – hands down. Launched in 2019, it’s the freshest five-star ship on the Yangtze right now. The cabins are big, the bathrooms have rainfall showers, and you get actual floor-to-ceiling windows instead of those tiny portholes. It’s the closest thing to a Western luxury hotel you’ll find on the river.

But here’s the thing: “modern” doesn’t always mean better for the trip. The Century Glory has a glass-bottomed observation deck and a spa, but the itinerary is the same as every other ship running the Chongqing to Yichang route. If you’re after modern cabins but don’t want to pay the premium, check out the Century Paragon (2017). It’s almost as new, same design, and often a few hundred bucks cheaper because it’s not the “flagship” anymore.

Many travel agencies will push the Yangtze Gold 6 or Victoria Sabrina as “luxury,” but those ships are from 2013–2015. The carpets are tired, the bathrooms are compact, and the USB ports are rare. Don’t fall for the “renovated in 2023” line – that usually means new curtains and a paint touch-up, not a real cabin overhaul.

    > Xiang’s Insider Note: If you book Century Glory, book a cabin on deck 3 or 4. Deck 2 cabins have a slightly lower ceiling because of the engine room below. And skip the “VIP” suite upgrade – it’s just a bigger room with the same furniture.

My honest advice: go with Century Glory if your budget allows and you want the newest experience. If you’re smart about your money, get Century Paragon and spend the savings on a pre-cruise night in Chongqing instead. Hope that helps. Safe travels!
